Hello

My name is Lewis Black and I have created Theory of Fitness with the goal of applying my knowledge to help as many people improve their health, fitness and lifestyle.

My background is quite in depth so please read below to find out more. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me using any of the methods on the website. Good luck with your fitness journey!

My Story

From a young age passion for health and fitness has always been prominent. I competed in a plethora of sports including football, karate, basketball, rugby and more. My favourite sport is Track & Field Athletics, moreover the 400m Sprint. Reaching national rankings in the 100m, 200m, 400m and the teams I've been a part of in the 4x100m and 4x400m has become one of my proudest achievements! This diversity in sport helped me to develop a range of knowledge in training techniques as well as the intricacies of strength and conditioning gym training.

But enough about my training and sport background and more about the qualifications that have been attained. I have been studying in the Sport & Exercise field since I was just 14 years old. Now at 24 years of age my qualifications include:

  • Exploring Sport Coaching and Psychology - The Open University 2020

  • Coaching the Person In Front of You - UK Coaching 2019

  • Level 2 Certificate in Planning and Delivering Gym Based Exercise - BISMA 2022

  • Level 2 Award in Instructing Studio Cycling

  • Level 3 Diploma in Sport - Aylesbury College 2017

  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence) - Buckinghamshire College Group 2018

  • Level 3 Diploma Practitioner in Personal Training - BISMA 2023

  • BSc Degree in Sport and Exercise Science - Leeds Beckett University 2021

And more. As you can probably imagine the crowning achievement being the Bachelors Degree in Sport and Exercise Science achieved at Leeds Beckett University. It was here where my passion for Physiology and Biomechanical studies found a place of its own which has heavily influenced the direction I have been wanting to take this business and my career.

My experiences of working in a fitness environment are diverse and engaging. Whether it be coaching, taking exercise classes or working in gym management it has taken me around the world leaving me incredibly grateful. I have listed some of the work I have completed below:

  • Personal Trainer Virgin Active Collingtree Park

  • Assistant General Manager Pump Gyms Bedford

  • Assistant General Manager Pump Gyms Watford

  • Fitness Instructor Pump Gyms Watford

  • Youth Sports Coach (Adventure Coordinator) TUI Sensatori Rhodes Greece.

  • Athletics Coach, Leeds Beckett University Leadership Academy

  • Disability Youth Coaching in Football & Basketball Buckinghamshire College Group

  • Children's Sports Coach in Hockey Stanbridge Lower School

I have decided to take this path and create Theory of Fitness for multiple reasons, all of which are just as important as each other. Firstly, one of the things that engaged me in sport where the benefits they could produce for myself and the people around me. I quickly wanted to spread this with the population and further explore the positive impact it can have on people. Reducing illness, increasing happiness and overall ensuring as many people are as healthy as possible. It became more evident to me when I was studying the average population and I came to find that the vast amount of people are in need of improving their health and fitness, so much so that the governments department of health have created the dietary and exercise requirements to be more than is required in an attempt to correct this. This brought the realisation that I wanted to have an impact in anyway I could.

This ties into the second reason. After graduating from Leeds Beckett University, I wasn't sure where to work or what to do with my qualification. I spent some time deciding to find a path that would give me the best chance of spreading this information I learnt as well as hopefully inspiring some other postgraduates to see there are jobs available. This put me into the gym business, where I worked as a Fitness Instructor, Assistant General Manager and now Personal Trainer. By taking these steps I have been able to inform, implement and be a part of helping people become the healthiest, fittest and best versions of themselves that they can be.

I hope my story has inspired a fitness journey in yourself. If it has but you require more guidance you can follow me on social media @Theory.of.Fitness or contact me using my email or the metrics on this website. Finally, if you are at Virgin Active Collingtree Park. I can be your personal trainer. You can find me there or use the Personalised Programs section on the website, where I can contact you.
